I’d suggest investigating the pain. Anything that makes it difficult for you to sit down and stand up without assistance is likely to become a serious problem as you age. Squats are a foundational movement for day to day life! (To be clear, I’d never suggest pushing through injury — my knees don’t personally cause me pain, as I wrote.)
